It’s funny how kids get more attached to some stuffed animals and toys over others. My four year-old daughter, Willa, is obsessed with Beena. Beena is a cute little bee and serves as the Bentonville Film Festival’s mascot. Fun fact: Geena Davis designed the doll, taking inspiration from the honey bee, Arkansas’ state insect.
When our dog, Zoe, chewed up the first Beena, I had to promptly replace her (the bee, not the dog). I wish I had pictures from that life moment to share on the blog because it was so scary … yet so funny.
All at once I heard a blood-curdling scream of “Noooooooo! Mommy!” When I ran in Willa’s room to find out what in the world had caused such a dramatic scream, she was in tears saying, “Zoe ate Beena!” It was true. Poor Beena had lost her legs and stuffing, thanks to Zoe.
At any rate, on most days Willa takes Beena to school. The rule is that Beena has to stay in the cubby so nothing happens to her. She gets to come out at nap time for snuggling and probably drool.
We love the film festival and all the great events, people (including Geena Davis of course) and international spotlight it shines on Northwest Arkansas. But even more fun, is that my sweet daughter has found an interesting new toy.
We should also note that “The Beena” is Geena’s signature cocktail at BFF. It includes pH elderflower honey syrup, circa vodka, Meyer lemon juice, Perrier and it’s garnished with a bee pollen elderberry rim.
